Since we’re all still full of that new-year-new-me buzz, a makeup clear-out is high up on our to-do list. You might find that lipsticks are particularly plentiful in your pile of what-not-to-keep. Whether it doesn’t fit with your vibe anymore or it’s just not your shade and you can’t think for the life of you why you bought it in the first place, falling out of love with lipsticks is all too common. But before you bin them, check out three things you can do to repurpose them.
Tint a Balm
Ever wanted to give your favourite lip balm formula a hint of a hue? Just empty the balm into a small microwaveable cup, add about a third of your chosen lipstick and pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds or until fully melted. Pour the liquid-y mixture back into the balm tin, put it in the fridge and let it set overnight.
This is a great way to mellow out any shades that you think are too strong for you. On the other hand, if the finished product doesn’t pack enough punch, just melt it down again with a little more lipstick.
Create a Cream Blush
If you’re more of a cheek than a lip person, you can turn unwanted lipsticks into velvety smooth cream blushes. Melt about three-quarters of a tube of lipstick with some coconut or argan oil using the same process as above. You’ll be left with a pink liquid that you can pour into a container to set. If you’re having a clear-out, you can recycle packaging by scraping the product out of an old highlighter or powder compact to make the perfect home for your new cream blush. Leave it to set in the fridge and you’ll have a gorgeous new colour for your cheeks.
Donate It
The third and final thing you can do with unwanted lipsticks (or any beauty products, for that matter) is donate them to Beauty Banks. This non-profit organisation is doing amazing work redistributing all the stuff we don’t want to homeless people and those living in poverty. As long as its unused and unopened, it’s good enough for Beauty Banks.
