What causes trapped wind? ▼

Trapped wind can be caused by a number of lifestyle choices ranging from your diet and what types of food and drink you are intaking, your fashion choices – yep, your choice of clothes could be causing you problems if they’re too tight – as well the speed at which you eat, increasing the amount of air you swallow, which we typically release as burps.

How do you get rid of trapped wind? ▼

If you are guilty of any of the above behaviours it would be our suggestion that you stop, however if you are a little unclear on how to relieve trapped wind, we would suggest following these guidelines:

  • Release the gas. Flatulence and belching may not be the politest of behaviours but the most obvious way to get rid of trapped wind is to let it out.
  • Passing stool will similarly let off some of the pressure.
  • Eat slower
  • Avoid chewing gum and carbonated drinks
  • Drink herbal tea
  • Take wind settler tablets
