Do I Need Hair Vitamins?

Too fine. Too short. Too dull. Too flat. Most of us suffer from self-confessed hair woes and will do anything to try and transform our locks. Yes, upgrading your usual shampoo/conditioner combo is one way to get your mane under control but hair vitamins can also help. Discover which vitamin-rich foods and supplements to stock up on to get your hair flick game on point:

Vitamin C

We’re told to indulge in oranges, kiwis or kale-packed smoothies when we’re feeling under the weather but this immunity-boosting vitamin can also help strengthen hair too. Vitamin C helps the body produce collagen and can also fight against free radicals so it makes it a winning antioxidant for hair.Look out for hair products including vitamin C, take a supplement or indulge in nutrient-rich foods such as broccoli, strawberries and red bell peppers (in addition to the usual Vitamin C suspects).

Zinc

Zinc compounds are often used in hair loss treatments because of its ability to accelerate hair follicle recovery and is also said to slow down hair follicle regression. Whether you choose to top up on supplements or get your zinc intake from food sources (side note – did you know oysters contain the highest level of zinc per serving?), it’s a vitamin you should incorporate into your daily regime.

B Vitamins

The Vitamin B complex is made up of 8 different water-soluble vitamins and all keep us all in top form in various ways. When it comes to your hair, Vitamin B5 supports the adrenal glands which can help stimulate growth. B12 is also regarded as one of the most important within the complex and should be part of your daily diet for general good health. Eggs, nuts and vegetables are all great sources of B12.

Vitamin E

An antioxidant that repairs and builds tissue, Vitamin E can help promote hair growth. You can find this vitamin in foods such as almonds, avocado and broccoli but it can also be used topically too. Massaging Vitamin E oil into the scalp can help reduce inflammation, increase blood flow and oxygen supply and repair any damaged follicles.

Vitamin A

If you have dry, dull hair then Vitamin A could help. Not only does it help cell growth but it also helps to produce oil on the scalp too. Get your fill by crunching on carrots or snacking on melon.
