If Halloween to you means exploring ‘Fantasy Land’ as opposed to ‘Spookyville’, then we’ve got the ultimate look that goes above and beyond the average unicorn’s imagination. Stand out from the party crowd and serve Cloud Nine face. Acting as our spiritual guide for this sky-inspired look is MUA and content queen, Keziah Joy. Here’s how to recreate it at home using a handful of head-turning shades from our faves Barry M and Collection.
How To: Cloud Nine Halloween Look
Step 1: Line your brows & lightly contour
We’ll get to the fun colour clashing in a mo, but first let’s lay the groundwork for your masterpiece. Taking an eyebrow pencil, define and shape your brows. Next, lightly contour your face using a blush or powder that adds a high contrast – there’s nothing ‘natural’ about this out of world look so feel free to experiment with bold coral hues.
Step 2: Build your colourful base
Using pigment-rich eyeshadow powders (you can’t go wrong with Barry M shades for this step), start playing with colour. Take a red-hued powder over the temples and along the nose, blending out towards the edges. Contrast this with a blue powder under the eyes and over your cheekbones.
Step 3: Add colour to your eyes
Take a bold aqua blue eyeliner and apply it as a block shade over the eyelids, blending it upwards at the edge to create a bold graphic shape that joins up with your powder base. Next take a yellow powder and apply it under the eyes to create a sunshine-bright contrast.
Step 4: Highlight
Using your favourite head-turning highlighter, strategically dab it in areas that add definition and tie your colours together – like the corners of your eyes and across the cheeks.
Step 5: Line your eyes
Take a white eyeliner and draw along your inner lash line (aka waterline) to make your eyes pop. Draw along your upper lash line using black liquid eyeliner for a high contrast. Take your wing higher than your average cat eye flick, by following the line and shape you created with eyeshadow, and halfway along the upper eyelid crease too for a bold finish.
Step 6: Create clouds
Release your inner artist and start creating your fluffy clouds, using a white liquid eyeliner. Draw a scalloped, cloud-like outline and blend the line to make it light and whimsical. Scatter the clouds across your cheeks, nose, forehead and neck.
Step 7: Finish your look
Line your lips and fill with colour, then add a high-shine, matching gloss. And because more is more, bring the drama with some false lashes.
