And while you may have decked out your wardrobe in Breton stripes and berets, we’ve got the best trick in the book to look as fabulous as a Parisian fashionista – a classic French braid.
Get rid of any knots and tangles with a good brush through your hair. Apply dry shampoo to the roots and brush this through – this will add a little texture to the roots. Brush hair away from the face so it doesn’t fall into a parting.
Step 2a – Separate hair into sections
Scoop up the top section of hair (where you would like your braid to start). Then separate this into three smaller sections, let’s call the far left section 1, middle 2 and far right 3. Once you have each section clearly defined, begin braiding by taking the outer section 1 and swapping with the middle section 2. Then repeat on the alternate side (3) taking it into the middle.
Step 2b – Braid, braid, braid
With the start of the braid in place, now we’re going to start the French braid. To do this, take an additional outer section of hair and incorporate it into the braid as you overlap the strands 1 and 3. Repeat these steps alternating the sides, until your braid is fully formed. Secure with an elastic band.
Step 3 – Finishing touches
Tug at the braid to loosen up the structure, this will create a more relaxed finish. And add a mist of hairspray to keep everything in place.
Top Tip: If you want a polished finish (Kim K style) then fill in any gaps with a hair powder.
