So why wait? Grab a dose of your iron now! You can also find other vitamins and mineral that help fight fatigue here.

What does iron do?
Iron helps the body to create and maintain healthy red blood cells aiding with the function of haemoglobin in the blood and carrying oxygen around the body. You can get your source of iron from foods such as red meat, nuts, pulses, dried fruits and fortified breakfast cereals. You should be able to get your daily intake of iron from food sources, however if you find you are struggling to do so, iron capsules, tablets and liquid iron supplements are another means of doing so.

How much iron do I need?
The levels of iron you require varies from men to women. Menstruating women require higher levels of iron as they lose a lot through their monthly cycle. It is recommended that men and women over the age of 50 or who are no longer menstruating consume 8.7mg of iron a day. For women who are menstruating, it is recommended you have an intake of 14.8mg of iron a day. We also have iron supplements for kids including other nutrients and minerals they may require.

What are the side effects of taking iron?
If you exceed your daily intake of iron. You may experience some side effects. These may include constipation, nausea, loss of appetite, diarrhoea or dark stools. If you think you may have low levels of iron and could be deficient, ferrous sulphate and ferrous fumarate are types of iron and medicines which are used to treat iron deficiency and can help to prevent anaemia. A lack of iron can cause anaemia which can lead to symptoms of tiredness and loss of breath which iron pills can help with.
