Studio London by Superdrug: Search for Studio Stars

SEARCH FOR STUDIO STARS
Following the successful launch of Studio London by Superdrug in 2022, we’re now looking to build our community. Launching today (12th July 2023), the ‘Search for Studio Stars’ campaign will discover and propel 10 MUAs, giving them an industry leading experience. The campaign has been launched to create a great opportunity, but also to support up-and-coming creatives trying to enter the industry, that may be faced with a number of different challenges – from a lack of opportunities to the price of purchasing a full kit.
A four-week search – entrants will be asked to upload one creative look to TikTok to enter, with a panel of industry experts then selecting 10 winning looks. The 10 Studio Stars will then enrol in a four-month programme to excel in their MUA careers - both online and offline. The campaign is in partnership with leading industry organisation, the British Beauty Council.
The Stars will be given a number of opportunities, including:
- Receive the full Studio London by Superdrug cosmetics range for their kits;
- Join Superdrug at their headquarters for an immersion day into the beauty industry;
- Access an exclusive makeup business webinar with leading industry contacts;
- Join Studio London for an exclusive makeup masterclass;
- Work on Superdrug’s upcoming seasonal marketing campaigns, including Halloween and Christmas.
How to enter...
To enter our Search for Studio Stars, please follow the below requirements:
- Entrants to follow @StudioLondonbySuperdrug and @Superdrug on TikTok
- Entrants to create a video and share on TikTok, as following:
- Sharing a creative look using any makeup products (products do not have to be from Studio London or Superdrug)
- Use the hashtag #SearchForStudioStars in the entry video caption
- Tag @StudioLondonBySuperdrug in the video entry
- Entrants must be made between 12th July and 8th August 2023
- Entries will be reviewed by a judging panel and selected by 23rd August 2023, with the Stars informed by the end of September

The Search for Studio Stars campaign is in partnership with the British Beauty Council, as they want to help highlight the importance of attracting new cosmetics talent and helping the beauty industry to thrive and grow.

So it’s vital to the economy and society that we demonstrate the credibility and creativity of cosmetics careers, attracting tomorrow’s talent through campaigns like ‘Search for Studio Stars’.”
Terms and Conditions for the Superdrug TikTok Studio Star Competition
Promoter: Superdrug Stores plc, 51 Sydenham Road, Croydon, Surrey, CR0 2EU
- Entry to Superdrug’s Studio Star Competition run via TikTok (the “Competition”) is open to UK residents (excluding ROI residents) aged 16 and over, except employees of Superdrug Stores plc (“Superdrug”) or Evoke Mind+Matter Limited (“Mind+Matter”) or any related companies, their families, agents, or anyone professionally connected with the Competition including but not limited to the Panel.
- Use of TikTok shall be governed by the TikTok standard Terms of Service.
- No purchase is necessary to enter the Competition.
- The Competition will open at 13:00 on Wednesday 12th July 2023 and will close at 23:59 on Wednesday 9th August 2023.
- To enter the Competition, you must:
- Create and upload a video to TikTok displaying your most creative makeup look before 23:59 on Wednesday 9th August 2023 (“Closing Date and Time”);
- Use the hashtag #SearchForAStudioStar and tag @StudioLondonBySuperdrug in the video which you upload to TikTok, as described above; and
- Follow both @StudioLondonBySuperdrug and @Superdrug on TikTok.
- Entrants must have a registered TikTok account by the Closing Date.
Selecting the Studio Stars
- All eligible entries will be reviewed and shortlisted by Mind+Matter in accordance with the criteria detailed in paragraph 11 below. The entries will be shortlisted to a number which Mind+Matter deems appropriate for further consideration.
- A panel of judges will then review the shortlisted entries and select up to 10 winners (the “Studio Stars”) by Wednesday 23rd August 2023.
- The panel who will select the Studio Stars will consist of 2 independent judges from the British Beauty Council and a representative from Superdrug (the “Panel”).
- Superdrug reserves the right to appoint a new/substitute judge on the Panel for reasons outside of its reasonable control (including, but not limited to, in the case of illness, unavoidable absence, or a conflict of interest).
- When selecting the shortlisted entries and the winning entries, Mind+Matter and the Panel will be looking for the best creative interpretation of a look. A total of 50 points will be available for each entry and will be allocated against the following criteria:
- 20 points for Overall Creative Impression; (here the judge is looking for how eye catching and memorable the video is. How creative is the makeup in terms of the concept).
- 20 points for Artistry and Technique; (the judge is looking at how good your makeup skills are and how well your look is executed. They’ll also be looking at your choice of colour and how great your application technique is).
- 10 points for Creative use of Video and Effects (including, but not limited to, transitions, text overlays, text to speech functionality and effects).
- The Studio Stars will be the individuals who receive the most points in line with these terms and conditions.
- In the event of a tie, the score for Overall Creativity Impression will be used as a tiebreaker.
- The decision of the Panel will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. Superdrug will not provide entrants with a copy of their score card and Superdrug reserves the right to reject any Studio Star who risks damaging the Superdrug brand.
- The Studio Stars will be notified via direct message from Studio London’s TikTok account;
- The TikTok videos produced by the winning Studio Stars as part of their entrance to the Competition will be shared on Studio London and Superdrug social channels, at Superdrug’s sole discretion.
Studio Stars Programme
- The Studio Stars will be invited to participate in a 4-month programme with Studio London by Superdrug commencing August 2023. The programme will consist of:
- All Studio Stars will be gifted one kit of Studio London products for personal use
- A day at Superdrug’s Head Office, learning about the Studio London business and spending time with different departments for learning opportunities
- Exclusive educational webinar session with industry leading experts
- In-person makeup masterclass with a Studio London ambassador.
- Opportunities to be involved in seasonal marketing material for Studio London, details of which will be shares with the Studio Stars during the programme.
- Save as otherwise confirmed in writing by Superdrug, it is the Studio Stars’ responsibility to organise and pay for their own expenses including (without limitation) travel, all food and beverages, incidental costs, and any other costs, charges, taxes or expenses which may be incurred by the Studio Stars in participating in the Studio Stars Programme.
- The activity is not limited to the above and Studio Stars may be presented with further opportunities at Superdrug’s sole discretion.
- If any of the Studio Stars are not available to participate in or are unable attend in person to participate in all of the programme, then Superdrug reserves the right to offer the chance to participate to an alternative Studio Star selected in accordance with these terms and conditions.
- During the Studio Stars Programme, our Studio Stars will be required to:
- Create and share content on their social platforms to promote Studio London and its products.
- Engage with the Studio London range and/or Superdrug social platforms.
- Further information on this will be confirmed to Studio Stars prior to the programme beginning by Superdrug.
Publishing entries
- All entrants agree that the TikTok video which they post as part of their entry into the Competition along with any content generated pursuant to paragraph 17 above may be reposted on Studio London and Superdrug’s marketing platforms – including but not limited to social media channels, websites, in-store, POS, emails, etc, between 12 July 2023 and 17 July 2024.
- Superdrug reserves the right for all Studio Star social media content to remain on the Superdrug and Studio London social media channels in perpetuity but agrees to refrain from posting any further content onto their social media channels after 17th July 2024.
- The Studio Stars may be required to participate in non-paid publicity or advertising relating to the Competition, which may include having their photograph taken for promotional and press purposes and the Studio Stars agree to participate if requested.
General
- The winning Studio Stars will not be able to transfer any element of the Studio London programme to anyone else.
- Superdrug reserves the right (but is not obliged) to substitute an alternative to any of the Studio Stars Programme activities described in paragraph 14 should circumstances make this necessary.
- There is no limit to the number of entries per person on TikTok. Entries that are delivered late, are illegible, incomplete, damaged or otherwise not in accordance with these terms and conditions will not be accepted. Entries made through agents, third parties, organised groups of any entry duplication method will not be accepted.
- Any decision of Superdrug as to eligibility to take part in the Competition will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. Superdrug accepts no responsibility for entries that are incomplete, late, delayed, lost, damaged or illegible whether due to failure or non-availability of www.tiktok.com or any other reason.
- Entrants confirm that they are the creators and owners of the video which they submit as part of the Competition. Entrants acknowledge and agree that they are responsible for obtaining any rights in their video, including but not limited to all rights in sound recordings and the musical works used in that video.
- By entering the Competition, entrants assign their rights and interests in the TikTok video which forms part of their entry to the Competition to Superdrug may use the entry for their own purposes, including the right to adapt the entry and to use it for commercial gain including but not limited to featuring the entry in email communications and across Studio London and Superdrug social media platforms.
- Superdrug reserves the right to delay, postpone or cancel the Competition.
- Entry implies acceptance of these terms and conditions and TikTok’s terms of service.
- The Studio Star’s surname and county will be available on request for one month after the Studio Stars are announced by sending an email to marketing@superdrug.com. Entrants may object to the disclosure of this information by sending an email to marketing@superdrug.com by 14 August 2023. The information shall nevertheless be made available to the Advertising Standards Authority upon request.
- By entering the Competition, entrants agree that their personal data will be used by Superdrug for the sole purpose of administering the Competition and in accordance with Superdrug’s Privacy Policy. The Privacy Policy can be found at www.superdrug.com/page/privacypolicy. All entries will be shared with the Panel.
- The Competition and these terms and conditions are subject to English law. Any disputes must be referred to the English Courts.
- Entrants acknowledge and accept TikTok will not have any liability to the entrants and entrants fully release TikTok from any liability in connection with the Competition.
- This promotion is not sponsored, endorsed or administered by or associated with TikTok and entrants are providing information to Superdrug NOT TikTok for use by Superdrug in accordance with the provisions of these terms and conditions.
