- Phytokeratin - A hydrolysate of plant proteins from wheat, corn and soya, it shows similar amino acid composition and properties to keratin, the key protein that builds the hair shaft and cuticle. Hydrolysed plant proteins - have film-forming properties, i.e. produce a protective film on the surface of the scalp and hair shaft, thereby reducing excessive water loss and having a conditioning effect. They have been shown to reduce irritation caused by surfactants used in skin cleansing products. What's more, hydrolysed proteins are able to penetrate the outermost layer of the hair and act to protect and help repair damage to the hair shaft.
