Waste and Recycling

At Superdrug, Our Waste and Recycling policy shows a commitment to reducing our environmental impact by following the reduce, reuse and recycle waste hierarchy.

Key principles of the policy include:

The majority of waste is sent from our stores to our dedicated recycling centre at our distribution centre, this provides a high level of control over waste management and reduces transport emissions

Diversion from landfill since 2013, all waste that cannot be reused or recycled is sent to an energy-from-waste facilities, ensuring zero landfill disposal

Data and Transparency, waste volumes are recorded and reported internally monthly, based on location and material so we have high visibility over the waste going through our recycling centres.

Energy Management

Key Highlights:

🔋 100% Renewable Electricity purchased: Since 2019 all electricity we procure comes from zero-carbon renewable sources (excluding biomass) and is Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) certified. There is a small number of stores in which the landlord purchases the electricity which may be non-renewable.

🔋 Energy Efficiency in Stores: Every new store and major refit includes LED lighting and energy-saving measures such as timers and last man out switches

🔋 Monitoring and Transparency: Our smart meter roll out means we are able to receive accurate consumption data. We track energy use monthly allowing us to identify and target stores where energy was being used unnecessarily.

Veritree

Through Veritree, we are working towards a sustainable future by restoring critical landscapes which help the planet thrive. Veritree and their partners work around the world to ensure that each tree is verified, and that every pound has a tangible impact.

In 2025, we started an initiative, for every new store we build we plant 500 trees.
