Autumnal eyeshadow tutorial for darker skin tones

Nellie showcasing autumnal eyeshadow look

Leaves are falling, nights are getting longer, and we’re starting to get ready for snuggly, hot-chocolate-y weekends – it’s autumn, y’all! We’re fall-y embracing it this year (see what I did there?) and getting in the mood with our makeup first. We asked Nellie Robert from @vintynellie to show you how to create a gorgeous autumnal eyeshadow look for darker skin tones. The browns and burnt oranges look gorgeous on deeper complexions, so defs give this one a go if you’re looking for some autumnal glam…

Seasonal transition

When doing any impactful shadow look, you need to use a transition tone in the crease. This is a colour that you can easily blend with both your natural skin tone and whatever shadow you’re applying to your lid. Go for a brown shade from the Revolution Reloaded Palette in Newtrals 2 and blend it through your crease.

This girl’s on fire

Nothing screams autumn like warm and fiery burnt oranges, so they just had to make an appearance. Nellie dabs her brush between two rusty shades from the Newtrals 2 palette and packs them onto her lid with pressing motions for maximum pigment payoff. Chances are you’ll end up with a bit of a harsh line at the top of your eyelid, so go back in with the transition shade to blend the colours in the crease.

Let’s go deeper

For real impact, add a black shadow from the Revolution Reloaded Palette in Velvet Rose to the outer corners and blend towards the centre of your lid with small circular motions. This will help add drama, which is perfect for any glam makeup lover.

Go low

Now for the lower lash line. Use the same mix of orange tones and blend that underneath your eyes, diffusing the pigment out so it seamlessly blends into your skin tone. Then give the lower lash line more depth by adding a warm brown shade at the roots of your eyelashes.

Line and define

Now for some liner to tie the look together. Swoop GOSH The Ultimate Eyeliner in Black onto your water line, working back and forth with the pencil, to achieve a look as dramatic as Nellie’s.

Touch of something special

What glam makeup look would be complete without an inner-corner highlight? Use the gold shimmery shadow from the Revolution Velvet Rose palette and apply to your inner corners for a shimmery pop of brightness.

Last up… lashes

Give your lashes a generous coat of MUA Amplify Mascara in Black, making sure you cover each lash for maximum volume. Not enough drama? Stick on a pair of Superdrug False Lashes in Double Volume 40 for the ultimate flutter factor.
