Let’s be honest, winter really sucks sometimes. The cold weather and shorter days can feel relentless. If that wasn’t enough, our skin becomes dry, red, tight and flaky due to central heating, lowering humidity, and cold winds. Like, seriously, give us a break! How can we possibly get through winter without our skin looking like a desert? Freelance beauty expert Lauren Naylor gives us her top hacks to get through these hard winter months.
Hack one: hydrate by using oils
Use Superdrug Vitamin E Skin Care Skin Oil because it is full of antioxidants and is great for healing scars, as well as leaving skin smooth and youthful looking.
After a long day, our skin can feel so tired and ravaged. Melt your makeup away with Optimum Phyto Sleep Cleansing Balm.
Hack two: combat dull skin by adding vitamin C
Superdrug Nourishing Gel Moisturiser: Kakadu Plum Extract, Goji Berry Extract & Grapefruit is infused with vitamin C, so great for detoxifying and brightening skin, as well as evening out pigmentation. This product is brilliant for anti-ageing as it encourages healthy cell turnover.
A quick fix for dull skin is using B. Cassie Lomas Sheer Liquid Illuminator. This gorgeous highlighter will give you that radiant glow you have been looking for.
Hack three: reduce redness by using a green colour corrector
The change in weather aggravates our skin, causing it to become red and blotchy. To hide this issue, use a green colour corrector to cancel out any redness. Nip+Fab Colour Corrector Peppermint is just right for the job.
Hack four: love those lips
Lips can become chapped and dry in winter, and it’s not cute. Remove all the dead skin cells from your lips using a toothbrush or try B. Pro Lip Scrub. This gentle lip exfoliator is so easy to use.
Add lip balm to lock in moisture by preventing any further water loss. A good and affordable product for this is Superdrug’s The Little Moisturising Blue Tin.
Hack five: always be prepared
B. Confident Hyaluronic Acid Facial Spritz is just the thing when our skin feels tight – it’s perfect to use inbetween products. The skin produces natural hyaluronic acid and just one molecule can hold up to 1,000 times its own weight in water.
Hack six: replace lost moisture
A great tip to ensure skin stays hydrated is to use a thicker moisturiser in the winter. Superdrug Oat & Coconut Moisturising Softening Cream replaces lost moisture and is great for all skin – even sensitive types.
