The latest skincare craze has got professional athletes, celebrities and trend-loving wellness buffs plunging into -140°C temperatures for an extreme body treatment that rejuvenates the skin and eliminates toxins. For the launch of the new Nivea 48-hour Rich Nourishing Body Lotion, the brand teamed up with LondonCryo, which specialises in cryotherapy treatments for sports, beauty and pain management in the City. Now it was my turn to give this crazy treatment a go.
It was pretty simple: plunge into the cryo tank and after the treatment let the Nivea lotion nourish and soothe your winter skin. Wearing a gown, fluffy socks, gloves and a rather interesting pair of clog-style shoes, I braced myself for entry.
As I removed my gown, the tank filled with liquid nitrogen mist, which immediately felt cold and continued to get cooler, reaching the -140°C degree mark, which made me feel – well, not much, really. My legs were numb!
Feeling refreshed is an understatement. Freezing doesn’t quite cover it. The cryo treatment was my coldest experience ever! But the whole point is that the extreme cold stimulates the release of endorphins, helps circulation and benefits muscles, all of which can help reduce wrinkles, tighten pores and stimulate the growth of hair and nails. If this is what the cold does, then I’m moving to the Arctic!
After the session, I lathered myself with the new Nivea Rich Nourishing Body Lotion which soothed my cold skin and began to get some colour back into my legs. Cryotherapy worked really well for me – it not only left my skin feeling revitalised but, as I’m a fitness fanatic, it helped to soothe my achy muscles.
The treatment isn’t for the faint-hearted. But be brave and you’ll reap the benefits. For those who’d prefer the sun bed to the cryo tank, then at least try applying the new Nivea body lotion regularly – it’s the perfect serum to help keep you moisturised this winter.
