When I ditched my teens and hit my twenties, I thought I’d left my skin stresses in the past… I was wrong. It didn’t take me long to realise that my skin was now contending with my lifestyle choices as well as my hormones. Sleepless nights seemed to be a requirement of uni life, and the walking-dead look didn’t really suit me, so makeup became a part of my daily routine. Throw in some bevs down the pub and a daily dose of London pollution and you’ve pretty much got a recipe for shoddy skin. But curbing the crisis is easier than it might seem – you just need to take matters into your own hands with a thorough routine, some patience and the right products.
1. Micellar magic
I really enjoy taking off my makeup at the end of the day, and micellar water is the perfect product for the job. I love the way Garnier Micellar Water For Sensitive Skin cleans and refreshes my skin without the stinging sensation I’ve experienced with other, harsher cleansers.
2. Cleanse, then cleanse again…
After my first cleanse, I cleanse twice more. This might seem excessive, but it makes sure I get all the makeup, dirt and oil off my face (especially as I live in a city). I use La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Cleansing Gel, followed by Nivea Purifying Toner.
TOP TIP: There are some great skincare products out there, but one of the best things you can give your skin is water. So whenever you rinse your face, let it dry on its own.
3. Gimme glycolic
I make it my mission to exfoliate once a week with Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Scrub. Glycolic acid is great for removing dull, dead skin and revealing a brighter complexion. It’s just the thing to remedy tired-looking skin, so this has been my go-to exfoliator for a while – and I love it!
4. Massage and moisturise
This is the part of my skincare routine I look forward to most because I take time to massage the products into my skin #SpaVibes. I use Simple Kind To Skin Protecting Moisture Cream in the morning and e.l.f Nourishing Night Cream before bed.
TOP TIP: Massaging moisturiser into your skin helps the product absorb and stimulates blood flow, which increases collagen production.
5. De-puff your peepers
Staring at a computer all day and not getting enough sleep give me tired-looking eyes. To brighten them up I use B. Restored 3D Eye Cream every night before I go to sleep.
6. Treat yourself
Who doesn’t love a good face mask? If I’ve had a heavy night, I treat myself to a L’Oreal Pure Clay Bright Face Mask to combat a dull complexion.
7. Wipe away the day
We all spend a tonne of time on our phones, so think about all the bacteria that collect on the screen. You don’t want that pressed against your face during an hour-long convo with the bestie. Clean it regularly with Superdrug Micellar Facial Cleansing Wipes to prevent breakouts.
