Feel like getting a bit spooky? Here are the films to watch to put you in the Halloween mood.

Hocus Pocus

This 1993 cult classic tells the tale of three witches, played by Bette Midler, a pre-SATC Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, resurrected by a teenager on Halloween night after 300 years. They have one night to try to secure their stay forever, but a magical cat has other plans.

There have been four in the series, but the first (1996) is definitely the best. Starring Drew Barrymore, Neve Campbell, Rose McGowan and Courteney Cox, it tell the story of a high-school student who becomes the target of a killer known only as Ghostface.

The Craft

In this 1996 supernatural horror movie, four teenage girls discover they have mystical powers, which they intend to use for nothing but evil. When they discover a spell of theirs causes a girl to lose her hair, they soon become power mad.

In this classic 1988 comedy, a family have the nerve to move into a house inhabited by ghosts, who summon up Beetlejuice to help them chase the unwanted lodgers away. He has other ideas, though…

Corpse Bride

Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter lend their voices to the two main characters in this 2005 Tim Burton animated musical. Victor Van Dort (Depp) accidentally marries a dead woman instead of his living fiancée.

The Addams Family

If you don’t know the finger-clicking theme tune of this 1991 fantasy comedy based on a creepy family, where have you been! Christina Ricci steals the show as the disturbed Addams family daughter, Wednesday.

With the all-female remake getting a mixed response this summer, it might be time to watch the original again (1984). Egon, Ray and Peter are three parapsychologists who start up a ghost removal business in New York after a woman Peter was about to go on a date with disappears.

As the daughter of a paranormal expert, Kat (Christina Ricci) should be used to spooks, but she’s never met one like Casper before. Although her dad’s trying to get rid of all the ghosts in the mansion he’s working on, Kat and Casper become firm friends in this 1995 comedy

The Witches

Based on the Roald Dahl book, this 1990 horror movie is about a world where witches are everywhere, masquerading as normal women and exterminating children wherever they can.

The Haunted Mansion

In this ghostly 2003 comedy, Eddie Murphy is the father whose family stumble on a haunted house while on holiday. To escape the house, they must first help the servants break a curse.
