Graphic eyes. Two-toned nails. Adorned updos… our roundup of the most exciting trends to try for less
Bullet-based red lipstick made a comeback on big name AW19 catwalks and seemed to follow a go- bold-or-go-home ethos. Models’ skin was generally kept fresh and paired with minimal makeup to let the loud lips do the talking. Louis Vuitton, however, took the look one step further and perfected a total bad-ass aesthetic with an accompanying razor-sharp feline flick.

It’s time to take it down a gear and ditch darker hues in favour of a more neutral palette. We’re taking note from Tom Ford, who created a look inspired by the softer tones of living in Los Angeles. Soft, smoky eyes were complemented with bronzed cheeks and muted lips, giving us some serious date-night inspo.

EMBELLISH THE TRUTH
Whichever way your pony likes to ride, it’s time to harness the power of accessorising. Get inspired by Emilia Wickstead and Byblos, where models’ hair was scraped into a high ponytail and finished with a hair accessory. Or keep it low à la Oscar de la Renta by tying hair at the nape of the neck and embellishing with a chic grip.

If you’re known to push the beauty boundaries, brightly accentuated eyes may just be the autumn trend you’ve been waiting for. Guy Laroche opted for a hot-pink look-at-me liner, and Carolina Herrera swept a flash of blood orange across models’ lids.

As the saying goes, the best things in life come in pairs, which certainly holds true for the season’s two-toned nail trend. Iceberg gave a fresh flamingo-esque flair to the classic French mani, while Tibi went 50/50 with taupe and silver. Use a fine-tip brush to make intricate lines easier when applying two colours.

Understated feline flicks are soooo Dolce & Gabbana SS16, but this season got fully behind the new-gen eyeliner trend. Catwalks embraced a retro-meets-futuristic twist, with Dior amplifying the Twiggy eye of the 60s, while Giambattista Valli and Moon Young Hee framed eyes with floating liner.

probably gathering dust at the bottom of your wardrobe? Brush them off and fire them up because crimped hair is back, and we’re going to give it a second chance. At Halpern, hairstylist Sam McKnight created a loose Pre-Raphaelite-inspired crimp on modern shiny hair. At Phillip Lim, sections of hair were braided, blow-dried and straightened to deliver the 90s-inspired style.
