The sun is shining and that means subtle liner, bare brows and shimmery eyelids. Struggling to say goodbye to your signature smoky eye? We have the perfect solution: behold, the summer smoky eye. Bronze, coppers and light browns will make for a subtle (but oh-so smouldering) poolside look. Makeup artist Anna Lingis tells us how to achieve it…

Step 1. Bronze the base

Anna says that to create a soft smoky effect, you should always use cream products, to give a dewy, sheer finish.

Use your fingers to apply a cream eyeshadow in warm brown and bronze tones across the whole lid. If you’re planning to stay up all night, go for a long-lasting shadow like Maybelline Color Tattoo 24Hr Eyeshadow in On & On Bronze.

Step 2. Frame the eyes

Now apply a bronze/brown cream eyeshadow along the lower lash line to the outer eye. Use your fingers to blend the colour and soften the lines around the edges.

To vamp up the look, apply a thin line of a dark brown eye pencil or liner along your upper lash line.

Step 3. Lengthen those lashes

The final step? Lashes, of course! What would a smoky eye be without Hollywood-worthy can’t-stop-staring-at-me lashes? If you’re gonna be chillin’ by the pool, you’ll want to perfect those peepers with something seriously waterproof. Maybelline Colossal Big Shot Waterproof Mascara is bold, beautiful and adds that lil bit of drama.
