If you don’t know who Meghan Markle is, where on earth have you been?! Prince Harry’s beau is an advocate of women’s rights, has a successful acting career (yup, we’ve binge-watched Suits. Twice.), and is having an effect on the nation’s makeup, too. Nude lipstick sales have soared by 65% since Megs and her man announced their engagement – that’s a whole lotta women buying a whole lotta nude lippy! We asked Rimmel makeup artist James Molloy just why this beauty is driving us Brits barmy and how we can all bring a little Meghan magic to our makeup.
‘Meghan’s beauty is relatable, well balanced and classic,’ James explains. ‘She takes all of the best parts of the trends we see on social media and refines them to make them super-wearable. She doesn’t wear a lot of makeup, so recreating her look is super-easy.’ Here’s how…
Step 1: Get Meghan’s natural glow
‘Use an all-over liquid highlighter after moisturising and before your foundation to enhance the skin’s natural glow,’ says James. ‘This will give a much more natural look than powder highlighter and works on all skin types and ages. Add a little peach blush to cheek apples for a healthy flush.’
Step 2: Try Megan’s eye makeup
‘For Meghan’s daytime eye, a great tip is to switch out your black eye kohl for a soft coffee brown,’ says James. ‘Smudge this around your lash line and blend into a neutral shadow, then add lots of black mascara. Coffee tones give a smoky effect that still works for daytime. Brush brows into place and fill in any gaps with feather-light strokes for a natural look.’
And there you have it – Meghan Markle’s fit-for-a-princess face. Want extra bonus points? Add a couple of coats of a nude polish for a barely-there, modern day mani.
