We use our brushes and blenders to apply, contour and blend regularly every day. So why is that we never seem to get round to cleaning them? Unwashed brushes can build up bacteria and dirt (ew!), which is transferred to your skin, leading to clogged pores and breakouts. So, guys, it’s time to break this bad habit and start giving brushes a good clean once a week – and what a great way to start with our four simple hacks for clean, good-as-new makeup brushes and blenders…

Hack 1: Use B. Makeup Brush Cleanser

Spray your brushes or blenders with this brush cleanser, then dry with a cloth or tissue for sparkling clean brushes – easy-peasy.

Hack 2: DIY brush cleanser

Why not make your own? Mix one teaspoon of coconut oil with a couple of squirts of washing-up liquid and – voila – you’ve got yourself a makeup brush cleanser that will deep-clean and disinfect.

Hack 3: Bar of soap

Sounds odd but, honestly, girls, this works like a dream. Swirl a damp brush over a bar of soap, then rinse it in clean water. Keep repeating until your brushes are makeup free. Still not sure about it? Try Makeup Revolution Solid Brush Cleaner.

Hack 4: DIY cleaning mat

For those of you who’ve left your brushes uncleaned for a good few months (we’ve all been there), a deeper clean is needed. As an alternative to a cleaning mat, use a grooved plastic bowl or textured oven glove – the rough surface will clean the brush bristles thoroughly and effectively.
