When we met Pixie Lott, she’d just touched down from sunning herself in Bali, was dashing around London promoting her new single
and was about to jet off to Ibiza for a series of gigs. So how does she keep her feet on the ground when she spends half her time in the air?
You seem to be such a happy person… what’s your secret?
I think in summer, sunshine brings happiness, but everyone has their sad days. It’s really important to remember the little things that make you happy. Whether it’s your favourite cup of tea, your favourite song or your favourite episode of Friends. There’s also a thing called happy dressing – if you’re feeling down, or a bit dreary, wearing colourful clothes works.
Your outfits are always so bright – you must love this time of year.
I’ve always loved summer, and I think you can be more fun, especially at festivals. You can try out more fun trends. You can really clash it up – so I’ll have bright pink hair and try a fun pattern on my nails.
What’s your number-one trend this season?
What I’m wearing today as I’m still in Bali mode – a swimming costume with jeans. It fits well, and it’s really summery. You can put it with jeans or with shorts if it’s hot. I don’t know why people don’t wear their swimwear more on normal days.
What would you say is the best holiday you’ve ever had?
The best one was probably the Maldives because it was so beautiful. I’d never been to beaches like them, and the weather was amazing. We swam with whale sharks, went on bike rides and did yoga.
Who’s your favourite person to holiday with?
I love the variety – I love going away with [my fiancé] Oliver, I love
holidays with my family, and I love going away with my girlfriends, too. I just love holidays!
Speaking of Oliver, have you planned your honeymoon yet?
I think my dream destination is Hawaii because I’ve never been there. It sounds like the ultimate paradise. It’s the place I’ve talked about going to for so long, but I’ve never had the chance, so I think we’re going to do that for our honeymoon.
On holiday, are you a high or low-maintenance girl?
I like to mix it up. I like having that natural glow you get from the sun when you go on holiday. And when your skin’s looking good, it makes putting on your makeup so easy. You can just put on a little bit of highlighter and a little bit of bronzer, and focus on your eyes.
At the moment, you’re spending loads of time on stage – how do you choose a look?
Attention to detail always – especially for big shows. It’s not just the costume, it’s the hair, the lashes, the nails. My favourite look recently was for [club night] Sink The Pink. I had my Pixie Paint Fluoro Glow In The Dark pink hair and glitter all over my eyes and lots of Kiss Couture lashes, with a custom bodysuit and thigh-high Balenciaga boots.
What’s the best beauty advice you’ve ever received?
I work a lot with Caroline Barnes – she’s done my makeup since I was 18 – and she’s taught me that less is more, to highlight and contour with a cream formula and blend so it looks natural.
What’s your top makeup trick?
My everyday look is a soft cream-based eyeshadow in a natural colour, which I blend with a brush, then use cotton buds underneath to smudge it out. Caroline taught me that, too – she’s a legend!
