There’s nothing like a good ol’ scroll through Pinterest, right? But with so much to look at, it can get a bit overwhelming. So we’ve whittled down the money-saving beauty hacks to our top five – after all, with January in full swing, we need to look after the pennies. We also tested them all out, to make sure they work…
1. Loosen up mascara
You know that sad moment when your fave mascara is drying out and getting a lil clumpy? All’s not lost… putting the mascara in warm water and leaving it there for five minutes will loosen it up.
2. Mighty morphing makeup
You thought that lippy of yours was only good for perfecting your pout? Think again. Gorge cream blushes can be made from old lipsticks. Find a colour that you think could work on your cheeks, then melt it down on a spoon over a candle (this is science, right?). Add some warmed coconut oil, then pour the mixture into a container to set.
3. Smashed shadow
We’ve all been there… rushing to get ready and your eyeshadow drops and shatters. Well, believe it or not there’s a fix. Collect all those little crumbs of goodness and smash them up into an even powder. Add a couple of drops of surgical spirit until the powder starts to combine. Pack it down into the pan and leave for 24 hours to harden. It’ll be as good as new!
4. Repurpose that product
If you’re on the lookout for a new blush, try repurposing a lip tint. The formula is the perfect consistency for smoothing over the apples of your cheeks. You can regulate the colour payoff by dabbing the product on the back of your hand before applying it to your face.
5. Homemade masking
Face masks are all about natural ingredients, so why not make your own? Mix the following ingredients into a bowl with a spoon: 2 tablespoons of crushed almonds, 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 teaspoon of flour and 2 teaspoons of milk. The almonds are great for exfoliating, and honey is full of good things for your skin, such as antioxidants and natural antibacterial properties. This mask will make you glow! Apply it evenly to your face and rinse off with warm water after 10 minutes.
