New Year’s Eve beauty dos and don’ts

It’s the evening most of us look forward to, with cocktails, crowds and midnight smooches all on the cards. But if you want to see your way into the New Year looking and feeling your best, here are the dos and don’ts you need to stick to before, during and after the biggest night on your calendar.

1. Drink water

This might seem like a no-brainer, but staying well hydrated during the party season will keep your skin looking clear and naturally glowing, meaning your base will look FLAWLESS come NYE and help to fight off any New Year’s Day grogginess. Aim to drink at least 2 litres per day.

2. Use an eye mask

Too much sugar and alcohol during the festive season can wreak havoc with your skin, while late nights can make your eyes look tired and puffy. Fake your eight hours’ sleep with a refreshing, hydrating eye mask, which will bring your peepers back to life in 10 minutes – followed by a brightening eye cream to prevent you looking as if you’re ready to snooze by 9pm.

3. Don’t be lazy

As busy as the festive period can be (meaning our beauty routines often get swept aside), it’s never a good idea to leave your New Year’s Eve beauty prep till the last minute. Worried about day-one hair fuzzing up in the cold? Wash it the day before. Want a perfect faux glow? Apply your tan well ahead, so you can touch up any mishaps before putting on your dress. Allow enough time for anything that could go wrong!

4. Lay off of sugary cocktails

Although it may be one of the only nights you feel you can indulge in just about any drink you fancy, try to avoid drinks mixed with lots of sugar if you want to enter 2017 feeling and looking as fresh as you can. Overloading on drinks rich in sugar or caffeine can cause skin breakouts and make you feel terrible the morning after.

5. Fight the shine in your pics

New Year’s Eve snaps always creep up on social media, and if you have skin that tends to get oily during a night out, use a self-setting powder foundation on areas such as the nose, cheeks, forehead and chin, and pop a translucent powder in your clutch for touch-ups during the evening.

Do you have any New Year’s Eve beauty tips that you would recommend? Let us know – we’d love to hear from you!
