With less than a week to go before it’s back on our screens (Monday 4th June at 9pm on ITV2, if it’s not already in your diaries), Love Island has released details of the first 11 Islanders – and we can barely contain our excitement. From a jet-setting air stewardess to a celebrity’s offspring, get ready to meet the people about to take over your summer….
Occupation: Cabin Crew
From: Stirling, Scotland
Scottish-born Laura has lived and worked in Dubai, so she knows a thing or two about high temperatures. She says, “I’ve had loads of boyfriends. Two of my ex-boyfriends were in the public eye.” [Pause while we rush to Google to try and find out who.] “I fall in love quickly.” Laura’s ultimate date would be “something adventurous, like paddle boarding” and she thinks cheating is “the lowest of the low” but has cheated once herself to “get back at the person that cheated on me”. Her biggest worry about going into the villa is that people won’t like her.
From: East London
Danny Dyer’s daughter (yep, he named her after himself) says her claim to fame is that ‘Keira Knightley once babysat me”, but we think she’s about to get a lot more famous on the island. She hates it “when a boy is far too full on” – so ease back on the grafting, lads – and says that making friends with the other girls is as important to her as finding romance. She admits, “Dating has never been great for me,” so here’s hoping her luck changes on the show.
With her biggest turn-off being “a guy who is too full of himself”, the boys better watch their ego around model Hayley. Not long out of her only relationship with her boyfriend of five years, Hayley admits that her feelings are “still quite raw”. Her biggest worry is no one stepping forward for her, and she cares about what the other girls will think of her, admitting, “Girl code is important.”
Occupation: Retail Manager
Former Miss North West (nothing to do with Kim ’n’ Kanye), Kendall says she “needs some help” and tips from the other girls, as she hasn’t dated for five years. She split with her fiancé last year, after five years together, and is now “ready to move on and start dating”. She’s looking for someone long-term and her dream date would involve “lots of food, I’m a real foodie”.
Occupation: West End Performer
With parts in Mamma Mia! and Dreamgirls, self-confessed “boy’s girl” Samira is used to being watched – but how will she fare on the Island? “It’s a little bit scary not knowing what personalities will be in there,” she admits. Samira is looking for “the opportunity to meet a really nice guy, or even a best friend” but admits she can be “hot headed” and a “little bit stubborn”.
Occupation: Student and Construction Worker
Niall says Love Island is his ex-girlfriend of three years’ favourite programme, so he does “feel sorry for her”, but he’s looking for love now. “I’m going in there with an open mind to find love,” he says. And if he sees someone he likes, nothing will stand in his way. “I don’t care who a lad is, I’ll still rock up and try and chat up his missus,” he says.
Fed up of online dating, model Eyal admits, “I’ve been on some Tinder dates that have been pretty awful,” and now he’s looking for love in the villa. “I’m at a point now where I’d actually like to find one that can last,” he says. A former member of a band called EverYoung (nope, us neither), his only concern in the villa is what his “parents, sister and gran might see”.
Occupation: Personal Trainer
“I’m super-competitive and hate losing,” says gym director Adam, who admits he’s cheated in the past. Adam’s looking for a girl who is “dominant and keeps me on my toes”, after going on some “horrendous” dates recently. “I’ve had to slyly text my dad to ring me and get me out,” he says. Adam also confesses to walking out on dates, and doesn’t like girls with “bad teeth”.
Occupation: Sales Manager
“When I walk into a room, I always make a statement. Not necessarily on purpose – I’m just so clumsy and I’ll knock something over.” Clumsy Jack wants to find someone he “can have a real laugh with” but doesn’t like girls who “fart or burp in front of me”. His claim to fame is “being able to swim a length underwater” and he thinks his sense of humour is his best attribute.
Dr Alex George
Occupation: A&E Doctor
Single for three years, Dr Alex is hoping for a girl who is “honest, open and passionate about something” but not high-maintenance. “Spending three hours to get ready to go and walk on the beach is too much for me,” he says. He wants to make sure he behaves “in the right way” in the villa and would like to be the next big TV doctor.
Occupation: Electrical and Nuclear Systems Design Engineer
Older women watch out. “I always go for the cougars,” says brainy engineer Wes, who also confesses to dating people who are “Instagram famous”. People who are “arrogant or ignorant” turn him off, and he’s looking for someone who he can “settle down with” who will “tame my wild lifestyle”.
