Breakouts, selfie lessons, and why everyone looks bad on the red carpet. We caught up with the chicest Kardashian sister…
Teeny tiny with killer legs, a glowing complexion and a hugely infectious smile… it’s no wonder Kourtney Kardashian has just been snapped up as the Manuka Doctor skincare ambassador. We grabbed an exclusive chat with her to talk all things beauty.
Tell us about being the face of Manuka Doctor. Are you excited?
I think it’s really cool, and I love that it came together so organically. I’ve been taking manuka honey for years when I get sick, and I have it every morning in my avocado shake. I posted about the honey on my app, Manuka Doctor saw it, and they were looking for a brand ambassador for their skincare line.
You’re a big advocate of natural ingredients… can you tell us why?
After having kids and choosing so carefully the food they eat and the products I use on them, I started to learn more and more, and I thought, if I’m doing this for them, I should be doing it for myself, too.
Tell us about your skincare regime
Well, I always start with Manuka Doctor Foaming Facial Cleanser (£14.99) and then use Facial Toner (£14.99) morning and night. I only moisturise my face about once a week at night. My skin isn’t dry, so my dermatologist told me just to use moisturiser when I feel my skin needs it.
Have you had any cosmetic procedures over the years?
No, I have facials, which my skin sometimes doesn’t react well to. Less is more for my skin.
Picked up any tips from your mum?
Definitely: just watching her when I was a little girl. She has always taken care of her skin, and she loves make-up. We used to play with it, and she would tell us to use a really hot washcloth to wash our faces afterwards.
If you could go back to your 15-year-old self, what beauty advice would you give yourself?
I used to try everything. If I was breaking out, I would use a mask and then a scrub and then another mask. I did way too much. Now I would tell myself to tone it down and keep it simple. My skin will break out once in a while now from all the travel and wearing so much make-up during filming and at photoshoots.
What do you do when your skin breaks out?
Stick to less is more. I just use a mask once a week.
Can you tell us how to take the perfect selfie?
It’s all about lighting. If there’s a window with natural light, it’s great to stand in front of it. It’s all about the angle you take your selfie, so I like trying different angles. Take a bunch of photos, and then you can pick the best one.
What looks will you be trying this autumn/winter season?
I saw a purple satin jacket recently and I’m like, ‘Yes, I need colour back in my life.’ And I want to be a bit wilder with my outfits. I wore
a green leopard-print Versace dress for Scott’s birthday in Vegas and I was like, ‘Yes, just a little colour and fun.’
Kim, Khloé and Kylie change their hair all the time, but you keep yours classic – will that change?
I just like long hair – I’m in my comfort zone with it. I don’t want to have it cut short, then find I hate it and have to grow it again. Recently, I was wondering whether to go light, but I haven’t decided yet… so you might see me with different coloured hair one day soon.
How do you keep your body glowing? Do you use fake tan?
I really don’t. I’m not a spray tan girl. I can’t stand it. The dirty-looking hands, elbows and feet – I just can’t deal!
You’ve got a fabulous figure – what’s your fitness schedule?
Thank you. I’ve made working out such a priority, and now I need it in my life. It’s so good for your mind, too. I have this amazing trainer called Don Brooks – his method is called Don-A-Matrix – and Khloé and I love to work out together. It’s helpful to work out with someone, and you’re not going to flake on that person. I try to do it at least five days a week. Khloé does two workouts a day, but I can’t do two because I have three kids.
What’s your typical daily diet?
I have avocado shake every morning, try to have a salad for lunch, and for dinner I do gluten-free, dairy-free.
Finally, who always looks great on the red carpet?
Everyone looks awful on the red carpet! The lighting is awful. You can take much better selfies.
