Junior Beauty Writer Mollie Hammond on the secret to fake tanning in winter…
It’s cold. It’s grey. It’s downright miserable. But ONE THING I WILL NOT SUCCUMB TO is a lack of glow. And if I have to cheat my way to achieve it, well, so be it.
However, it can be difficult to build up the courage to whack out my mitt and mousse while standing half-naked in a house where the heating is limited to one hour a day (ah, the joy of frugal housemates). But what if I told you I have the solution to fake tanning in winter? And that it involves ditching the mousse in favour of an oil-based tanning product?
Why, I hear you ask? Firstly, I find oils go onto skin a lot more easily and quickly, which means you don’t need to dedicate as much time to its application. Perfect for when you want to spend as little time as possible in that half-naked state I mentioned earlier.
Secondly, when you accidentally miss parts of your body when applying an oil, it isn’t as obvious as when you use a mousse. This is because the overall colour is a lot more natural and subtle. Which is why I’ll often just tan my face and neck with an oil – and it takes just seconds. You can do it before bed or apply it in the morning under your makeup.
There’s one tanning oil I absolutely swear by, and I’ll mention it at least once a day when people comment on my ‘natural, sunkissed glow’. ‘This? Oh, it’s not real,’ I say. ‘It’s just my Skinny Tan & Tone Oil.’ You won’t regret your decision to bag this beauty.
