Happy Birthday, Queen Elizabeth II! Our longest-ever reigning monarch turns 91 today, so we’re sharing the 10 things we love about her…

1. Her love for colour blocking

When it comes to style, the Queen’s still got it. Whether it’s rocking a pastel yellow or popping pink, she effortlessly works the colour head to toe, with not a fashion faux pas in sight.

2. Her appearance in the mini James Bond film at the opening ceremony of the London Olympics in 2012

How could we ever forget Her Majesty’s collab with Daniel Craig at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Who would have thought that would ever be a combo?!

3. She loves Downton Abbey

Rumour has it that the Queen is a big fan of Downton Abbey – along with EastEnders, Coronation Street, Doctor Who and The Antiques Roadshow! A takeaway-and-Downton marathon at Buckingham Palace it is!

4. Forget chauffeurs – she’ll drive herself!

The Queen learnt to drive – and repair heavy vehicles – during the Second World War, so she could help with the war effort, and has been spotted behind the wheel of her Range Rover several times over the years.

5. Her love of corgis

Queen Elizabeth is said to have owned over 30 corgis during her reign… and even takes them with her on her private jets. Now that’s a WHOLE lot of puppy training!

6. Her annual Christmas Day speech

Every Christmas, somewhere between scoffing mountains of roast potatoes and your uncle falling asleep on the sofa, we patiently wait for Her Majesty’s appearance on our screens for her yearly speech… during which silence falls as we listen to her words of wisdom.

7. She loves a good laugh

Though the Queen might try to stay without expression at important events, she has often been snapped having a giggle… which is so contagious!

8. She’s partial to the odd photobomb

Remember when this photo sent Twitter into meltdown? Yep. That.

9. She’s stuck around for a long time

The Queen has been on the throne for over 65 years, during which she’s seen the country through a world war and lived through a technological revolution, the birth of space travel and greater equality for women in many parts of the world.

10. She’s not afraid to be a hands-on grandmother

The Duchess of Cambridge opened up about the Queen (or as Prince George likes to call her, Gan-Gan!) loving to spoil her beloved great-grandchildren. ‘She always leaves a little gift or something in their room when we go and stay, and that just shows her love for her family,’ the Duchess said.
