Not all of us are lucky enough to be blessed with speckled cheeks, so when we found out how easy it was to fake freckles, we leapt on the bandwagon. With the likes of Demi Lovato and Kylie Jenner to use for inspo, it was super-simple to achieve the distinctive markings we’ve come to love so much.

How to do faux freckles

The key to natural-looking freckles is that they shouldn’t look too perfect. Ditch the dotty symmetry and just have fun. We used L’Oreal Paris Brow Artist Micro Tattoo Eyebrow Definer to achieve our looks. Unlike a brow pencil, the inky formula bleeds out a bit when you put it on your skin, so you end up with natural-looking freckles rather than circular dots.

Step 1: Choose the right colour for your skin. One or two shades darker than your natural skin tone will give you the most natural look. If you usually wear foundation, start with your base already prepped.

Step 2: Dot the product over your nose and cheeks. You can improvise or use a picture for guidance. Keep going until you’re happy with the look.

Step 3: You’re good to go! But if the freckles look a bit too bold, use a sponge to dab a little of your base colour over the faux freckles to soften their appearance.

What we thought of the trend…

Project Manager Lucy

Blonde lady with freckles

I’m all about this trend! As soon as I started applying the product, I fell in love. I went for a look that was more concentrated on my nose and sparser over my cheeks. I really like the way it turned out, so this trend gets a massive thumbs-up from me!

Junior Beauty Writer Mollie

brown haired woman with freckles

Not gonna lie, I was a bit nervous about trying this trend. I wasn’t sure it would suit me, so I kept my look subtle with just a few faux freckles here and there. Obvs I ended up loving it – and so did everyone else on the DARE desk – and I kept the freckles on all day.

When I found out I was going to be trying this trend, I took to Insta for some inspo. I really like the way Zoë Kravitz’s freckles are mainly on her nose, so that was what I went for. The end result was great, and the process was really fun! It’s amazing how easy it can be to switch up your look.

Verdict? 10/10!
