Cancel next week’s trim and dust off your hair extensions… the Cher Hair trend is all about embracing a sleek, ultra-long mermaid-esque mane.

The style is inspired by pop sensation Cher, who was the trendsetter for the pin-straight, centre-parted, waist-length hair that became her signature look in the 60s, 70s and 80s.

The hairstyle was recently revived by Kim Kardashian in 2016 at Paris Fashion Week, when she paired back her makeup to allow her long, luscious locks to take centre stage.

Chris Appleton, the hairstylist behind Kim’s super-long hair, told American entertainment website Hollywood Life how adding extra shine makes the look ultra-dramatic. Here are the four simple steps to success…

1) Start with freshly washed hair, so the final look will be really shiny.

2) While hair is wet, create a razor-straight centre parting, then blow-dry your hair, ensuring the roots are flat.

3) Apply lots of shine spray, then use hair straighteners to get the lengths poker straight.

4) Spritz with hairspray to get rid of any volume at the roots, then flatten down with your hands.

‘If you have a fringe or shorter pieces at the front,’ says Chris, ‘add a couple of hair extensions to give you the really long finish.’
