Don’t get me wrong… I LOVE makeup and I think it looks great on other people. But I’m all about the natural look and I loathe lipstick. Concealer, mascara and maybe a flick of eyeliner and that’s me done. My lips remain strictly nude. So you can imagine my horror when I saw on the content plan that I had to wear a different statement lipstick every day for a week. ‘I’m pushing you out of your comfort zone,’ said Nat, my manager. And although I don’t think I’ll be banging out the brights on a daily basis, taking up this lipstick challenge has shown me that I can rock it – and I don’t need to be so nervous about switching up my look.
Vamp it up
Thought I’d dive in at the deep end and begin my week with Revolution Pro Supreme Matte Lip Pigment in Intuition. I have to admit that I LOVED the colour, even though it made me look super-pale – but I guess that adds to the vampy vibe. The deep purple is perfect for the season, but it felt a bit much for during the day. But I’ll defs be wearing it on any upcoming nights out to top off my look.
Vamp it up
After my Monday option, I thought I’d tone it down a touch on Tuesday. I went for L’Oreal Color Riche Gold Obsession in Plum Gold, and I preferred this for day wear. It didn’t draw as many eyes and, although I had to touch it up a couple times (problems of a tea enthusiast), I found the formula a lot more comfortable. Also, the colour was just enough to make an impact but not so much that I felt I had to plan my outfit around it. All in all, I’m a fan.
On Wednesdays we wear pink
I think I got a bit cocky with this one, guys. I can safely say that bright Barbie pink is NOT my colour. Although the lipstick felt really nourishing, I was super-self-conscious wearing it. However, if this colour is up your street, you’ll be hard pressed to find one with better colour payoff than Revolution Rose Gold Lipstick in Girl’s Best Friend. As you can see, the pigment on this baby is popping, so defs worth buying if you’re into all things pretty and pink.
Coral’s a keeper
Determined to find a bright colour that suited me, I turned to coral – with the help of a colleague. Given my previous pink disaster, I wasn’t expecting a lot, but Maybelline Color Sensational Mattes in Craving Coral absolutely rocked my world. The orange-y undertone complemented my skin tone perfectly and suited my style – so much so that it’s earned a place in my everyday makeup bag.
Let’s go crazy
I thought I’d go out with a bang on Friday and try something completely out of the box, to see if I could pull it off. Although I think the midnight-toned Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lipstick in Blue Iris has a gorgeous formula and amazing staying power, I don’t think I’ll be reaching for it any time soon. But props to you if you can manage to rock this colour in your day job… it was just a little too much for me.
