What Does a Serum Do?

When applied in its liquid form, a serum coats the surface of your hair, protecting it from harmful factors including humidity and heat. As well as this, it controls and softens your hair making it the perfect canvas for you to begin styling.

Unlike coconut oil, a serum will not penetrate your hair cuticles, changing its structure. Instead, it will smooth and lock in the natural pattern of your hair– straight or curly - whilst adding shine through its light reflecting qualities.

How Does a Hair Serum Work?

Ideally, a serum should be used by those with dry and damaged hair as it will build it back to health. However if you find your hair condition is generally good then a serum can be used as a preventative. It nourishes the hair, making the strands stronger and more resilient to heat. In conjunction to this, the conditioning qualities ensure that your hair is left silky, soft and healthy.

When applied to wet hair the serum thinly coats the strands forming a protective layer. Whilst encasing the hair strands it begins working to return any moisture lost from heat generated from hair styling, exposure to the sun, or other everyday particles that cling to your hair.

How to Use a Serum

Wash your hair as normal with shampoo and conditioner and apply the serum to wet hair that hasn't been neither brushed nor towel dried. Using a serum on unwashed hair will make your hair greasy, and defeat the point of the product – to nourish and add shine.

As serum contains oil, less is more. For those with short to medium length hair 2/3 drops will do. For those with longer hair, 5/6 will be enough.

Rub the drops around the palm of your hands and distribute evenly through your hair, massaging the strands.  Avoid applying to the roots of your head as this will cause your hair to look greasy and heavy. Equally, too much serum on your hair will have the same effect - so use sparingly!

Once you have covered your strands right down to the tip, you can begin to brush your hair. Always brush downwards as this will help to disentangle your hair giving it the sleek, supple finish you desire.

Finally, once your hair is completely dry you can begin to style. For double protection, apply heat protector in addition to the serum if you have damaged or brittle hair.
