Makeup trends from the 90s are undoubtedly iconic. Blue eyeshadow, brown lipstick, and glitter everything is a few that spring to mind. However, there’s one trend from the 90s that we're not prepared to leave in the past and that's gothic-inspired makeup! We're talking grungy black eyeliner, smokey red eyes and oxblood lips, but all with a modern twist!
If you are ready to embrace your dark side, check out these gothic-inspired makeup looks and how to create them yourself at home.
Look 1: Drama in The Eyes
Winged eyeliner is a beauty staple that never goes out of fashion, but to give it an edge you need to dig deep with the theatrics! With this look, the entire focus is on the eyes and it’s about as dramatic as it comes!
You would need the world’s steadiest hand to complete this look in one sweep, so take your time and apply it in stages.
To tap into your inner rock chick, start by applying a light coverage foundation to create a base.
Next, to draw focus to your eyes line them all around with a liquid or gel eyeliner. Take your time here, start with your upper lash line, then move on to your flick and lastly apply black kohl eyeliner to your waterline. For a more mesmerising finish, tap a little bit of silver glitter into the centre of your eyelids.
Look 2: A Killer Pout
To complement your killer pout, apply a champagne eyeshadow to the centre of your eyelids and blend an earthy red into the outer corners.
Take the same earthy red to the waterline and gently smudge it out.
Add a subtle highlight to the inner corner of your eyes and contour your cheeks to complete this gorgeously glam look, with a twisted edge.
For your dark souls out there, how about giving these a go?
3: The Lady is a Vamp
If there was ever a look that proved dark, mysterious makeup could be sexy, then this is it! This gorgeously, alluring vampy makeup look is guaranteed to turn heads when you walk into a room!
Start by applying a full coverage base - you don’t want to go too light as any blemishes in your complexion may be pulled out by your red eyeshadow or lipstick.
For the smouldering, red eyes blend a plum red eyeshadow over your lid, up towards your brow bone and below your waterline. Then, apply kohl eyeliner to your upper lash and waterline, gently blending your upper lash line out.
Finish this look by lining your lips with a blood-red lip liner and filling with a matte red lipstick.
