Is your nether region getting a little too fleecy for your liking? If so it may be time to cut the grass. That’s right – we’re talking pube grooming. For a long time, this kinda haircare was women-only territory, but not any more. Sportsmen have actually been manscaping their manhood for ages – Lycra, sweat and a hairy downstairs just don’t get on… trust us. However, we understand that taking a blade to your bat ’n’ balls can be, well, downright terrifying! That’s why we’ve pulled together the best products for the job and some tips and tricks that’ll keep your bits intact.
Get a good look
Rule number one: don’t go anywhere near your short and curlies without making sure you’ve got both eyes on your downstairs. Have a Superdrug Double-sided Magnifying Mirror to hand so you can always see what you’re doing.
OK lads, time to tackle that main hunk of hair above his majesty. You’ll want to trim this when dry with a proper groomer – I see you with that old razor… put it down! Philips OneBlade Face + Body is specially designed for all-over grooming. Make sure you always use a guard for this step to avoid any nasty accidents and always trim in the direction of hair growth to avoid snagging.
De-fluffing your danglers is tricky business and means having to wield a razor near your walnuts, so I’m gonna refer you back to the first step – make sure you’ve got a mirror to hand! Again, you want to use a clean, fresh razor. Bacteria can build up around the testicles, so doubling up with your face razor is a massive no-no. Equally, if you have any accidents down there and nip a bit of skin, using a clean razor will mean you lower the risk of infection. Lather up with some sensitive shaving foam to avoid razor burn – Superdrug Men’s Grooming Shave Foam Sensitive is great because it contains both aloe vera and vitamin E, which help soothe and moisturise. Then get yourself a good-quality razor like the Gillette Fusion ProGlide Flex-Ball Razor and, again, shave in the direction of hair growth. Pull your skin taut to avoid snagging the sack and take your time.
Once you’re satisfied with your shave, you need to get some moisturiser on the area to stop your skin getting irritated. Use something like E45 Cream – it absorbs quickly and will stop itching. Finish off with a sprinkle of Johnson’s Baby Powder to leave you feeling fresh, clean and dry.
