How to Choose the Best Tweezers?

best Tweezers

Pluck, pluck – ouch! Tweezing can be quite painful, and using the wrong pair can sometimes make it worse. But don’t worry, we’re here to explain how to choose the best tweezers, so that plucking pain would be as minimal as possible.

best Tweezers

Before You Shop for the Best Tweezers

We all are different, so the tweezers that we require will differ. Some of us have fine hair, some of us have thicker, stubborn hair, so as a general guide it may be the case that we’ll need to test out a few tweezers before getting ones that wouldn’t want to part with.

It’s also a good idea to have tweezers only for your face, another pair for any other part of the body and a third pair in your first aid kit for any medical purpuses.

If you have sensitive skin, when choosing tweezers go for a stainless steel pair as it is a non-allergenic material.

Types of Tweezers

Pointed Tip

Looking for ultimate precision? Tweezers with a pointed tip are the right ones for you. They also work perfectly for people who have fair and fine hairs that could be harder to pluck with any other type of tweezers. They can also be used to remove splinters.

Straight Tip

If you want to pluck more hairs at a time, a pair of tweezers with a straight tip is right for you. They are designed to pluck thicker hair, and can remove a group of hairs at once, which is handy and time-saving. Plus… if you ever are looking for extra precision when popping on a pair of false eyelashes, the best tweezers for this will be ones with a straight tip.

Slanted Tip

This is the most common tip in tweezers as it acts like a two in one. On one side you have the pointy tip, and on the other – the straight one. This is the perfect multitasking pair.

best Tweezers

Cleaning and Storing Your Tweezers

It’s important to keep your tweezers clean and sterile. It’s really easy to do: simply clean with alcohol or steriliser using a cotton ball or pad. If your tweezers have been in contact with blood, place them in boiling water for 5 minutes to make sure no bacteria is spread when you use them next.

It’s best to store tweezers in a small pouchette, as these are sharp objects (especially the pointy ones!). Plus, this will help to minimise the amount of bacteria that tweezers can be exposed to if not stored properly.

Just Landed: Shawn Mendes Signature

From the man who brought us Stitches – y’know, that catchy song we’ve all sung a few decibels louder than would be deemed office appropriate – comes the brand-new fragrance that we guarantee will be on everyone’s Christmas list.

A post shared by Shawn Mendes (@shawnmendes) on

Shawn Mendes is, of course, well known for his swoon-inducing tunes and pretty-boy looks, but now he’s turned his hand to perfumery – and we gotta say we’re impressed.

Shawn Mendes Signature is a unisex scent that’s inspired by his Canadian roots, with sugar maple accord at its heart. The fragrance opens with an infusion of refreshing citrus and radiant florals, and ends with long-lasting rich woody notes.

A post shared by Superdrug (@superdrugloves) on

We’re also big fans of the vintage-inspired bottle, with its copper-toned guitar pick engraved with Shawn’s signature, and a cap that replicates a wrapped guitar string.

Shawn is clearly super-excited to share his creation with us all. ‘I wanted to create something really special that I could share, which represents the authenticity of my music and my connection with my fans,’ he says.

So if you know of a big Shawn Mendes fan or there’s nothin’ holding you back (if you know, you know) from getting this scent in your collection, act fast. We expect it to be a massive seller...

Makeup Looks for Mature Skin

Makeup looks for mature skin

It’s no secret that over time our complexion changes form. But, while it’s common nature to seek out hard-working skincare formulas to combat the loss of elasticity, strength and pigmentation – what about the beauty kit? Featuring a natural daytime look and a striking evening look, our video tutorials will show you how to master makeup for mature skin.

By Day: Natural Makeup for Mature Skin

Perfect for when you’re running errands or heading for a coffee with friends, this natural look will add luminosity to your skin. Cue the compliments!

What Will I Need to Achieve this Natural Look?

Step 1 – Prep the base

Makeup for mature skin 1

Step 2 – Curl lashes & smudge eyeliner

Makeup for mature skin 2

Apply a thin layer of primer all over the face and neck, massaging in with circular motions using your fingertips. Next, apply a CC cream using a flat bristle brush. Opting for a CC cream over foundation will mean you’ll have good coverage without any cakey residue.

Use a concealer stick to hide any age spots, blemishes or dark circles. Gently dab on any problem areas and blend with your fingertips.

Take your trusty eyelash curlers and pump a couple of times on each eye to give the lashes a little lift in volume.

Use a soft pencil eyeliner (a slightly blunt nib is better than super sharp!) and draw close to the upper lash line. Blend this in using an eyeshadow brush. Repeat the step just under the lower lash line.

Step 3 – Use gel to set brows

Makeup for mature skin 3

Opt for a brow gel with a subtle tint and brush through brows to create definition. This will also set them into place and stop any pesky hairs along the brow arch from dropping down.

Step 4 – Apply colour to lips & cheeks

Makeup for mature skin 4

Using a savvy two-in-one beauty hero (cheek and lip tint) dab colour on to lips using your fingertip. Then apply the same colour along your cheekbone, dabbing to blend.

By Night : Smokey Eye Makeup for Mature Skin

If you’ve sworn by a smokey eye for decades, there’s no reason to stop when you hit your ‘demure’ years. This rendition of the classic night out look is as edgy as it is sophisticated.

What Will I need to Achieve this Smokey Eye look?

  • Hydrating mist
  • Primer
  • Eyelash curler
  • Soft bristle brush
  • Eyelid primer
  • Concealer (optional)
  • Gunmetal crayon eyeshadow

Step 1a – Prep skin with a spritz & primer

Smokey Eye Makeup for Mature Skin 1

To add a dewy glow to the skin, we’re starting with a spritz of hydrating mist. Hold the product at arm’s length so it lightly coats the skin rather than a direct, watery spray.

Next apply primer all over the face with a flat bristle brush.

Step 1b – Apply foundation & primer

Smokey Eye Makeup for Mature Skin 1b

Apply foundation all over the face. We’ve used a hydrating liquid foundation for added radiance, but you can use a matte finish if you prefer.

Coat eyelids with a targeted primer, as this will cling on to the eyeshadow pigment for a more dramatic, long-lasting look. Go over any age spots/pigmentation/blemishes with a concealer to ensure your base is as flawless as can be.

Step 2a – Curl lashes & apply eyeshadow

Smokey Eye Makeup for Mature Skin 2a

Line up your eyelash curler near the root of your lashes and pump a couple of times for added lift. Repeat on your other eye.

Then take a gunmetal-hued eyeshadow crayon and apply over your eyelids, blending with a brush or your fingertips. Smudge the colour under the eye too, to add definition.

Step 2b – Add more colour to the eyes

Smokey Eye Makeup for Mature Skin 2b

Continue building on the smokey eye look but blending a lighter gold metallic eyeshadow into the inner corners of the eye. Next, take a dark brown eyeliner and gently draw a line close to the upper lash line.

Don’t build up a defined eye, simply draw on and smudge out with a brush to blend into the rest of the look. You can take this down to the lower lash line too for added wow. Finish with a coat of mascara.

Step 3 – Pencil in brows

Smokey Eye Makeup for Mature Skin 3

Add shape and definition to your brows in a natural (not dramatic!) way with a little help from a brow pencil. Pick a colour that’s a shade darker than your brow colour and apply in short strokes. Use a spooly brush to blend and set hairs into place.

Step 4 – Add a slick of lippie to finish

Smokey Eye Makeup for Mature Skin 5

Line lips using a nude lip liner and apply a slick of pink/nude lippie. This complements the metallic tones used on the eyes as it doesn’t dominant the look, but adds a warm tint.

Step 5 – Apply cheek tint

Smokey Eye Makeup for Mature Skin 5

Using a pink-hued blusher, apply to the cheekbones and blend out with a sponge or your fingertips. We’ve used a stick blusher for added ease – it’s also perfect for top-ups on the go.

Step 6 – Set with powder

Smokey Eye Makeup for Mature Skin 6

To avoid any shiny spots throughout the night, gently brush on translucent setting powder paying particular attention to the chin, nose and forehead.

pancake recipe image

Ingredients for Chocolate & Strawberry Pancakes

Makes around 10 pancakes

  • 175g self-raising wholegrain flour
  • 2tbsp chocolate protein powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 free range egg

  • Sliced strawberries (to top) and a drizzle of melted dark chocolate
