How to get a safe and sunkissed glow this summer.

Top Ten Tan Tips Top Ten Tan Tips

Did you know that there is no legislation for sun bed usage in the UK? Using a sun bed can cause skin damage and ultimately contribute to skin cancer which is why Superdrug is urging all its customers to boycott sun beds this summer and get a healthier tan.

The new tanning collection from SOLAIT has been reformulated for summer 2010 to offer even more ways to be beach bronzed in a beautiful, and safe, way.

When tanning formulations are this good there is no need to resort to sun beds or mad forays into the midday sun in the hope of looking sun-kissed and healthy, here are the top ten tips for the best tan ever… and not a blistering shoulder or sun bed in sight.

1. Glow and go

When time is short and you don’t have time for a self tan to develop swoosh bronzing powder down the front of the legs and across the shoulders for an instant glow to go. Or apply a instant bronzing gel for a tan which will wash off later. Try SOLAIT Maxi bronzer for face and body £5.

2. Be prepared

It may sound obvious but applying self tan or bronzer to skin in fabulous condition is going to get the best result. Use body lotion to give skin a moisture hit in the weeks before you start to use fake tan – dry, patchy skin just doesn’t respond as well. Try: Naturals Cocoa butter body butter £3.42.

3. Scrub it up

Give skin a good scrub before reaching for the fake tan bottle. Exfoliating the skin will lift dead skin cells and give a smooth canvas for tans to be applied. Try Lula Bloom body scrub £5.99.

4. Moisture boost

After exfoliating apply a body lotion paying extra attention to wrists, ankles, knees, feet and elbows. Let the lotion sink in fully before applying fake tan. Try Vitamin E All over body cream, £2.79.

5. Get gloved up

Use an applicator mitt to apply tan evenly and keep hands and fingers free of stains. The glove can also be used to tackle tricky to reach areas, slip it over the head of a back brush and use it to sweep the tan all over your back. Try SOLAIT applicator mitt, £3.00.

6. Mask it When tanning the face smear a little balm along the hair line and eyebrows, this will help mask those tricky areas which can leave tell-tale orange tide marks when the tan develops. Try Superdrug’s Little blue balm tin, 88p.

7. Take it off

We all make mistakes… these handy wipes will take away mistakes and are perfect for cleaning palms after applying tan to ensure no tell tale marks. Try SOLAIT fake tan remover wipes £1.50.

8. Keep it up

When you have a base tan you can keep up a good healthy colour either with a once a week application of the tan or using a body lotion with gradual tan ingredient after the daily shower. Try Superdrug Love Your Body Love Your Skin gradual tan £1.99.

9. Bronzed beauty

For a sun kissed look when applying bronzing powder to the face only sweep over those parts of the face which naturally catch the sun; the nose, cheekbones and chin. Then apply a little on the temples, the base of the neck and the collarbone. Use a big soft Kabuki brush for the most natural glow. Try SOLAIT Kabuki brush £5.00.

10. Cover up

When you’ve spent so much time creating the perfect tan then don’t spoil it by going out in the sun without adequate sun protection. A fake tan gives no protection against the harsh rays of the sun and skin will burn and blister quickly so cover up with SPF30+ sun cream. Try SOLAIT moisturising sun lotion SPF30, £8.97.
