Superdrug is delighted to announce its support of National Apprenticeship Week (6th to 10th February), organised by the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS). The week celebrates the talents and skills of apprentices and their value to employers. Superdrug’s apprenticeship programme has been running since 2007 and was established to give employees the chance to develop their skills, confidence, and achieve a nationally recognised qualification. 2012 will see the company aim to recruit over 800 new apprentices onto its Apprenticeship scheme. To date over 700 apprentices have been part of the scheme. The programme is open to all colleagues who have been with the business for at least three months, and work a minimum of 16 hours a week and offers a chance to ‘learn while you earn’. This Christmas Superdrug is spreading festive cheer by offering customers the chance to sign up to Letter From Santa, a campaign to raise vital funds for the NSPCC. The NSPCC is working closely with Rudolph Mail to ensure that thousands of children receive a personalised letter from Santa himself in time for Christmas. Customers can visit any Superdrug store nationwide to collect a postcard, which gives full details of the campaign, and then make a suggested donation of just £5 in order to secure a personalised letter to be sent direct to a lucky child. ‘Tis the season for giving and, for the price of a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie, you can make a child’s Christmas magical whilst supporting a fantastic cause at the same time. Superdrug customers have deemed expensive trips to the salon so last year and are choosing to maintain their beauty regimes in the comfort of their own bathrooms. With salon prices soaring and purse strings tighter than ever Superdrug has seen a significant rise in customers indulging in DIY beauty treatments. Sales of home hair dye have risen 17 per cent in the last year, while customers boycotting pricey beauty salons are indulging in more home waxing and spa treatments than ever. Superdrug offers a number of at home beauty treatments for under a tenner including the indulgent Beauty Parlour Chocolate Face Mask £4.99 and Veet Ready to use Waxing strips (£6.99). An extravagant body scrub would cost around £50 in a spa or salon, where as Superdrug customers have been picking up Vitamin E body scrub (£1.99) and Vitamin E Intense Moisturiser (£2.99) with sales rising 35 per cent over the last year. Superdrug is celebrating 2011 as the year of the eyebrow. Income from its eyebrow threading bars has tripled over the last twelve months seeing multi-million pound growth in beauty services. The retailer launched its first in store beauty service in its Westfields White City store in Nov 2009, and now has 130 brow bars, four medi-spa clinics and four stores offering manicures at in store nail bars. 2011 has seen experts in the stores’ concessions thread over 350,000 eyebrows over the last 12 months. This growth is set to continue with a further 100 threading brow bars set to open in 2012. Non invasive cosmetic treatments such as anti-wrinkle injections and fillers are also a growth market with a further ten stores set to open dedicated beauty clinics in 2012. Steve Jebson, Superdrug Commercial Director comments: “We know our customers love to look good and it was a natural progression for us to offer services alongside our accessible beauty offer. “Having nails professionally painted or eyebrows threaded is something that our customers have come to expect as part of their beauty routine but as purse strings tighten a trip to the salon can be pricey. Friday 21st October will see Gavin and Stacey star and face of Superdrug Joanna Page open a new 7,000 sq foot Superdrug store in the Trafford Centre. Joanna will visit the centre to unveil the new Superdrug store (Lower Peel Avenue) which will open at 10am. The eagerly anticipated store is one of Superdrug’s new beauty concept stores offering customers a new environment to shop beauty products. On Friday 14th October Superdrug is inviting its customers to celebrate the opening of its new concept store in the Metrocentre. The store which is located in the heart of the shopping centre (unit 68-70) has been handpicked as one of the first in the UK to be reinvented, as part of nation wide store refreshment programme. This innovative make-over will see the store redesigned into different product areas as well as introducing Superdrug's sister company The Perfume Shop to the store for fantastic choice and service for fragrance. The new store will also include a walk in brow threading service which will offer beauty lovers the quality of a salon service at a high street price with threading available from just £10. Store Manager Jean Ackarman has worked at the store since its opening and says “We are delighted to be brining our customers such a fantastic beautified store. “We have been in the centre for over 25 years and it’s great to bring our customers a state of the art new store where they can try all the latest beauty buys, visit our threading bar and still pick up all their essentials”. As the X Factor live shows kick off, Superdrug customers are clamouring to recreate the contestants’ glamorous looks at home. This weekend saw the girls step on the stage looking ultra glittery and Superdrug predicts its customers will follow suit with sales of cosmetic glitters set to rise. It is reported that X Factor mentor Kelly Rowland took beauty matters into her own hands and redid the girls make up from scratch adding more glitter, minutes before they were due on stage. Superdrug customers in Reading know they can pick up all their health and beauty needs at their local store, 55/59 Broad Street, and now the store is getting a face lift. The store has been handpicked to be one of the first stores in the country to be ‘reinvented’ as part of a new national programme and will reopen at 8am on Friday 23rd September. The re-launched store will showcase the new design treatment for Superdrug pharmacies. The design includes a pharmacy consulting room and a counter design which ensures some privacy for pharmacy colleagues offering customers help and advice. Dawn Ferguson Superdrug Reading Pharmacy Dispenser, who has worked for the company for over 11 years, says “We are really thrilled to be opening our brand new state of the art pharmacy. “We know our customers will be delighted with the store’s new look and we hope they will enjoy every part of the new design”. This summer saw Superdrug undertake a nation wide beauty tour in its iconic pink London Routemaster. Following the successful 50 stop tour, the bus is hitting the road again, this time to welcome the nation’s students back to university in style. The bus is set to visit over 15 university towns from the end of September and throughout October, bringing students everything they need to survive the new term. Bus visitors who show their Superdrug BeautyCard will be offered exclusive makeovers and mini manicures using the latest NYC and Barry M products. Those who have yet to sign up to the Beautycard, can register there and then in a special sign-up zone. Experts from Mates will also be on hand to offer students sexual health advice and free samples of condoms. As well as all of this students will receive a fantastic 20 per cent off in store with a valid NUS card until the 6th November. Beauty lovers in Birmingham are on count down ahead of the opening of the new Superdrug concept store this Friday (30th September) at 9.30am. The hotly anticipated store has been handpicked as one of the first in the country to be redesigned as part of a national store reinvention programme. Located in the heart of the busy Bullring Shopping Centre (SU 329) the store will offer customers the perfect place to revitalize their look with a drop in Beauty Clinic offering eyebrow threading from just £5 at the new Brow Bar. To mark the opening weekend, Superdrug is asking customers to take a photograph of their favourite part of the new store and upload it to Twitter; the entrant who takes the best photograph will win a fabulous goody bag and 1,000 BeautyCard points to spend in store. To celebrate the relaunch the store’s Beauty team will be offering customers the chance to have a free make-over on the opening weekend with no appointment necessary. Look magazine is building its brand and beauty credentials with the launch of a new cosmetics range, Look Beauty. The range will be sold in Superdrug stores nationwide and will raise money for Look Good…Feel Better, the national cancer charity helping women with the visible side-effects of their treatment.
