MARKET DEFINED FOR BROW BARS

09/01/2012

Superdrug is celebrating 2011 as the year of the eyebrow. Income from its eyebrow threading bars has tripled over the last twelve months seeing multi- million pound growth in beauty services. The retailer launched its first in store beauty service in its Westfields White City store in Nov 2009, and now has 130 brow bars, four medi- spa clinics and four stores offering manicures at in store nail bars. 2011 has seen experts in the stores’ concessions thread over 350,000 eyebrows over the last 12 months. This growth is set to continue with a further 100 threading brow bars set to open in 2012. Non invasive cosmetic treatments such as anti- wrinkle injections and fillers are also a growth market with a further ten stores set to open dedicated beauty clinics in 2012. Steve Jebson, Superdrug Commercial Director comments: “We know our customers love to look good and it was a natural progression for us to offer services alongside our accessible beauty offer. “Having nails professionally painted or eyebrows threaded is something that our customers have come to expect as part of their beauty routine but as purse strings tighten a trip to the salon can be pricey. This is where our in store services step in offering a great value, easy way to have a beauty treat without feeling guilt about the cost.” Brow threading in Superdrug starts at £5 compared to up to £25 at a salon, manicures start at £7 and tinting from £10
