Do blondes really have more fun? Or is life better on the dark side? These celebrities have tried both, but how do you prefer them?

Kim Kardashian

Kim's switched from dark to blonde a handful of times. She’s since admitted some of the blonde ’dos were wigs, while at other times she just bleached the roots and added hairpieces to give an all-over light effect. But at Paris Fashion Week in February 2015, Kim premiered a full platinum ’do, created for her by A-list stylist Lorri Goddard, announcing the inspo for her transformation came from one of the most iconic blondes of all. ‘I’ve always had this image of Madonna with platinum hair in my references folder on my computer,’ she said. ‘And I’ve been waiting a long time to try the look.’ Do you think she pulled it off?

Cameron Diaz

It’s hard to imagine Cameron as anything but a Californian streaky blonde, but she did have a brief flirtation with dark hair back in 2006. It was a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it style decision, though, with her reverting to blonde a few weeks later, even after saying of her new look, ‘I like my hair colour, and I'm going to keep it. It's going to stay a while.’ Guess the novelty wore off.

Caroline Flack

She often has the best of both worlds with blonde dip-dyed ends or balayage streaks, but Caroline has also been a full-on platinum blonde and a deep dark chocolate. ‘I like having both,’ she says. ‘I'm naturally a mousy brown, so it suits me being a mix. I tend to change my hair often and try different colours.’ Any bets on what she’ll go for next?

Britney Spears

Britney’s had an up-and-down history with her hair, not least the infamous head-shaving incident of 2007, but extensions, styles and cuts aside, she’s known for being a bright blonde. However, she’s tried out the brunette look five times since she became famous, in 2006, 2007, twice in 2009 and more recently in 2014. She explains, ‘I like to change up my hair as often as I change up my show costumes.’

Victoria Beckham

Virtually unrecognisable as a blonde, VB’s dark-brown hair is such a key part of her high-fashion image now that it’s easy to forget she once opted for a distinctly ‘Sun-In’-esque shade. She started with heavy highlights through her crop in early 2007, getting progressively lighter throughout the year, but by the time 2008 was on the horizon, she’d gone back to brown and has stayed away from the bleach ever since.

Madonna

She’s such an iconic blonde it’s easy to forget that Madge has had quite a few forays into the dark side, but she’s tried being brunette plenty of times over the years. With varying degress of success… from the Bettie Page wig at the 2013 Met Gala to her chocolate waves in the Like a Prayer video, there’s been some hair hits and misses.

Michelle Keegan

She ditched her glossy brown locks for her part in ITV drama Tina and Bobby and immediately admitted: “It’s a huge change and I look in the mirror and don’t recognise myself.” She’s said that both she and Mark are fans of it though so who knows how long it’ll stay around.
