Last night’s Golden Globes officially kicked off award season for the year, and to say it was eventful would be a total understatement! From inspirational speeches that left us all lost for words, to outfits that scored every red-carpet goal possible, here are our favourite funny and incredibly fabulous moments from this year’s Golden Globe awards ceremony…
1. Ryan Gosling’s acceptance speech
As if we weren’t already mad about Ryan Gosling, the obsession got a whole lot more serious last night. Ry took to the stage to accept his award for Best Actor for his performance in La La Land and gave the sweetest speech, thanking his wife, Eva Mendes, for her support.
He said, ‘I’d like to try and thank one person properly, and to say that while I was singing and dancing and playing piano, and having one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second, and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer. If she hadn’t taken all that on so that I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me today. So, sweetheart, thank you. To my daughters, Amada and Esmeralda, I love you. And, if I may, I’d like to dedicate this to the memory of her brother, Juan Carlos Mendes.’
2. Angelina who?
Brad Pitt surprised the audience when he stepped onto the stage to present an award, looking arguably more dapper than ever – just months after he and his former wife Angelina Jolie announced they would be divorcing.
3. Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively set all of the couple goals again
The two of them made us all ‘awww’ at their cuteness so many times last year, but last night they both looked more loved up (and stylish) than ever!
4. The ladies made pink a thing again
Lea Michele, Emma Stone and Lily Collins all rocked the red carpet in pink frocks, showing us that pink is most definitely still a thing!
5. Meryl Streep’s acceptance speech
Meryl Streep delivered a speech that got everyone talking.
6. Evan Rachel Wood showed us that the Golden Globes ceremony isn’t all about expensive dresses and high heels
Evan Rachel Wood explains why she opted to wear something a little sleeker last night, saying, ‘I’ve been to the Globes six times, and I’ve worn a dress every time. I love dresses, but I wanted to make sure young girls and women know they aren’t a requirement. You don't have to wear one if you don’t want to. Just be yourself because your worth is more than that.’ You. Go. Girl.
7. John Legend had his name misspelt
We reckon whoever was responsible for John Legend’s nominee card might have felt slightly awkward…
