  • Only Hair for the Beer

    02/07/2011

    ONLY HAIR FOR THE BEER
    - Superdrug customers demand the revival of beer shampoo -
Superdrug has a reputation for bringing back classic beauty products due to customer demand; male hairspray and traditional setting lotion are two products recently resurrected due to requests from customers.
Now stores are being bombarded with requests for beer shampoo after the leading brand Linco discontinued its popular original beer shampoo and conditioner earlier this year. The treatment, which sold for £2.35, was enriched with natural ingredients and specially developed natural hops.
Superdrug last took delivery of the product in January and stores have now either sold out completely or have minimal supplies.
Rinsing hair in beer is a traditional method for restoring shine and body to dull, lifeless hair.
Simon Comins, Superdrug Director of Toiletries comments: “Beer is one of the oldest hair treatments known and sometimes in the beauty world traditional remedies are the best.
“While rinsing your hair in beer may be the age-old way to get a healthy shine actually pouring a can of beer over your head is not only slightly messy, and a waste of good beer, but can leave a rather distinctive fragrance on the hair.”
Superdrug has asked Linco to continue making the product who have declined. To ensure customers are not disappointed Superdrug is now getting ready to launch an improved beer shampoo and conditioner from another supplier.
The new two-in-one beer shampoo and conditioner will launch this autumn and will be on sale for £1.99.
Other traditional hair treatments include using nettles for hair restoration, parsley for dandruff, vodka for a deep cleanse and beaten egg to help restore strength.

  • HAVE AN OILY GOOD HAIR DAY

    27/07/2011

    - beauty and hair oils sales rocket -

Superdrug sales shows that one of the beauty industry’s long held views is being turned on its head with the rise of a new breed of beauty oils.

Where previously pure oils were shunned as they were thought to exacerbate skin and hair conditions, today oils are the latest must have, with hair, body and facial skin oils flying off the shelves.

Since its introduction two weeks ago Argan Hair Treatment Oil (£9.99) has rocketed to one of the retailer’s best sellers. In an about turn to the received wisdom that applying oil to the hair would make it look greasy, this oil smoothes frizz, gives protection and shine and also reduces drying time by up to half. Over xxxx bottles have been sold to date.

Similarly Superdrug’s restoring skin care oil, a mix of eight natural oils designed to minimise the appearance of scars, stretch marks, blemishes and uneven skin tone, has proved so popular that it has recently been relaunched in a bumper 200ml bottle (£13.99). Sales of the original xxml bottle are xx per cent up (YOY).

Sara Wolverson, Superdrug Director of Beauty comments; “Previous generations have given oils a wide berth in fear of greasy hair and a shiny face.

“However, historically oils have always had a place in beauty routines and today’s customer is now embracing their power. Whether tea tree oil used as an antiseptic, body oil sprays to give intense moisturisation or Vitamin E oil designed to be used directly on the face, there is an oily revolution taking place.”

Similarly another oil best seller is oil specifically developed for nails, cuticle oils have seen sales rise 37 per cent (YOY).

Head to toe in oils •Hair; Argan Hair treatment oil (£9.99) •Face; Vitamin E facial skin oil (£xxx) •Body; Restoring skin care oil (£13.99) •Hands; Andrea Fulerton Nail Boutique cuticle oil (£5.99) •Legs; Ooh La Spa body oil spray (£5.99)
